Matthew Beland’s story is one of courage, resilience, and of misfortune transforming to good fortune.
A racer from the age of four, Beland made his Progressive AFT debut in 2016 and spent the next four seasons as a points-earning rider in AFT Singles competition.
His life took a major turn after getting caught out in a multi-rider crash at Laconia in 2019. Despite remounting to finish the race, he later discovered that he not only suffered a series of spinal fractures and broken ribs in the incident, but also that he had a cancerous mass on his kidney.
Undeterred, Beland battled his way back from injury and cancer to become an ultramarathon runner and made his improbable return to Progressive American Flat Track following several years away.
And he’s already shown in 2026 that he’s still got it – scoring a maiden Progressive AFT podium in the AFT AdventureTrackers opener while also scoring points at DAYTONA on a 450cc.
